After all, you cannot remove the toilet seat with your empty hand! So, the below tools will come in handy for you.

Tools needed to remove the toilet seat

Step-one:Open the plastic housing

If your toilet seat is attached to the main body of the toilet by bolts and nuts, you have to remove those bolts and nuts first.

Open the plastic housing

If these bolts are made from plastic ingredients, most probably, they are situated under a small housing (plastic made).

Use your hand to open this housing and let the plastic bolts and nuts visible in front of you.

Step-two: Remove the Nuts and Bolts

Remove the Nuts and Bolts

In this step, you have to remove the connecting nut and bolts of your toilet seat. Hold the below nut while you are unscrewing the bolt. You will need a large screwdriver and a wrench/plier to progress this step.

Here one more thing I would like to include, some toilet seats may contain wingnut to hold the bolt tightly in the place. So, before you remove the bolt, you have to hold this wingnut with the plier.

If you cannot remove the bolt using the pliers and the screwdriver, use a basin wrench to hold the nut. You already may know that basin wrench can successfully remove any tightly fitting nuts and bolts.

For removing the toilet seat enclosed to the toilet, push the tip button, which is placed at the inner bottom of the toilet seat.

Step-three:  Remove the old/broken toilet-seat

So, once you have removed all the connecting bolts and nuts, your work is almost done. You can now efficiently dispatch the old or broken toilet seat from the toilet.

If you are removing the broken toilet seat from the toilet, make sure you have worn the safety gloves to hold the broken places.

Step- four: How to remove a toilet seat with metal hinges:

For the older toilet seat or the toilet which has a metal fixing, they are connected with the toilet body using some metal hardware. So, you have to remove toilet seat metal fixings to remove the toilet seat in that case.

toilet seat metal fixings

The toilet seat hinge hardware contains the metal bolts and nuts, which may be corroded on more prolonged contamination of water. Removing this corroded nut and bolts is a little bit difficult.

You have to use a longer socket wrench to dispatch the nut from the seat hinge bolt. If you cannot help yourself to remove the metal fixings using the socket wrench, be prepared to cut the lock off from the fixing.

In that case, separate the porcelain toilet tip using a putty knife. Hold the knife against the bolt and separate the toilet seat a little a bit.

Firmly cut each the locks at the top portion using a small hacksaw. Hold the knife tightly as a barricade in between the hacksaw and the toilet seat.

Step- five: Attach the new toilet Seat

Attach the new toilet Seat

If you have read up to step-three, you already know the removing process of the toilet seat. However, I include one more step to describe how to attach the new seat on your toilet.

It is a pretty simple procedure, you know! Take your new seat, correctly place it in its position. Connect this new seat using new bolts and washers and nuts etc.

Tightly screw all the lock. Close the housing and cover the bolts. Your new toilet seat is waiting for your seating over it!

Frequently asked questions (FAQs):

FAQ-One: How to remove stuck toilet seat plastic bolts?

Answer: I have my personal experience to remove the junked and stacked toilet seat from my toilet. I have split the nut using one little hammer! As there is no other way to dispatch the bolt, you have to broke it. Isn't it?

However, you can cut the top of the bolt to dispatch it from the respective nut as well. The new toilet seat will come with spare bolts and nuts, so you don't need to worry about the old one!

FAQ-Two: Why I can't get an old toilet seat off?

Answer: It may be because of stacking the connecting fixing of your toilet seat with the toilet body. Very often, this scenario is happening due to connecting the toilet seat using metal fixings.

Metal nut and bolt has the chance to be eroded after a long exposal of water. As your toilet seat becomes too old, so its metal nut becomes jammed to move the seat smoothly.

Final Verdict:

Do you think all the process I have included here is a little bit difficult? Believe me; I also think the same when I was a newbie to remove the toilet seat of my toilet. The most exciting thing is that, in the middle of my removing process, I had called even a technician to complete the remaining removing! When he removes the seat within a few minutes, I just shocked.
